Family fight to save Carter

-

THE family of Aaron Carter is desperately trying to intervene to save the troubled former child star, we’re told.

In the past few weeks, the singer — and younger brother of Backstreet Boys star Nick Carter — has totaled his car, been arrested for DUI, had police visit his home after a suicide threat and come out as bisexual, saying that he “just can’t live a lie anymore.”

But sources tell Page Six that his concerned relatives have been talking to authorities and experts to try and figure out a way to help him.

Meanwhile, we’re told that Aaron is dead-set on finishing up his current tour, which has three dates left and ends on Oct. 13.

On Twitter recently, Aaron has been claiming to be in good health, complaining of being the victim of a media smear campaign, and retweeting fans’ messages of support.

On Friday, he tweeted, “A thing may happen and be a total lie; another thing may not happen and be truer than the truth.”

The situation has echoes of similar — and ultimately successful — efforts by the families of fellow wayward child stars Britney Spears and Amanda Bynes.

Aaron began performing as a support act for older brother Nick’s boy band in 1997 and had hits with “Aaron’s Party (Come Get It)” and “I Want Candy.”

But he has since struggled, racking up a number of arrests for drug and automobile incidents and going bankrupt in 2013.

He has also had a knack for getting involved in colorful incidents. In 2013, he claimed to have been beaten up by four men in Boston for performing on the territory of New Kids on the Block, a ’90s pop group. He told a radio show that the men said, “I heard you’re doing a show here tomorrow. This is the town of the New Kids.” He also drew attention in 2015 for claiming that Michael Jackson “passed down the torch” to him.

A rep for Aaron declined to comment, and a rep for Nick didn’t get back to us.
