OMG! $1K+ for Apple’s new iPhone X: reports

Get ready for the iPhone X — and for sticker shock.

After months of speculation about what Apple would call the next-generation iPhone to be unveiled on Tuesday, it now appears the tech titan has settled on iPhone X, according to reports on Sunday.

And with facial recognition software, a crisper OLED screen and an all-glass front, the new iPhone is expected to cost you plenty — like $1,000 and up.

That’s 30 percent more than the $749 entry price on Apple’s current top-of-the-line smartphone, the iPhone 7 Plus.

While earlier leaks had Apple calling the soon-to-ship smartphone the iPhone 8, iPhone Edition or iPhone Pro, developer Steve TroughtonSmith spotted references in the iOS 11 code that revealed the next handheld gadget coming out of Cupertino, Calif., will be called the iPhone X, Macworld reported.

An expected four-figure price tag for the entry-level model phone was reported by several tech sites.

Macworld and others cautioned that when it comes to the name and price “we won’t know for sure until we hear it from Apple.”

There will also be an iPhone 8 and an iPhone 8 Plus unveiled on Tuesday, the blogs said.

The next iPhone, as had been rumored, will feature a top-to-bottom pane of glass on the front — eliminating the physical home button, according to reports.

Other features expected on the iPhone X include:

A display that is powered by OLED, a first for an iPhone. That means colors will be brighter than on all existing iPhones, powered by LCD displays. Battery life will be longer, too.

OLED screens are more complicated to make, however. Thus recent reports that there have been some manufacturing glitches could mean it will take a while for the iPhone X to reach stores in any great number.

Without a physical home button, Apple will ditch Touch ID in favor of FaceID, which uses facial recognition software, said Macworld.

The camera on the iPhone X will have vertically aligned lenses and a flash that will feature Portrait Lighting, accord- ing to 9to5Mac. Portrait Lighting improves iPhone’s existing and highly promoted portrait mode camera setting.

The iPhone X will also feature more versatile side power button. Double-clicking the button starts Apple Pay, said 9to5Mac, while pressing it and holding it will activate Siri.
