Among new features: It will know it’s you

Apple’s new iPhone X will have an “edge-to-edge” screen, wireless charging, can be unlocked simply by looking at it — and comes with a $1,000 price tag.

The “ten” — so-named for the original iPhone’s 10-year anniversary — “will set the path of tech for the next decade,” CEO Tim Cook said during an unveiling at the company’s California headquarters on Tuesday.

The flashiest feature may be its new “Face ID” system, which creates a “mathematical model of your face” that can be used to unlock the phone at a glance, according to Senior Vice President Phil Schiller.

But the feature wasn’t quite camera-ready during the company’s announcement Tuesday — Apple VP Craig Federighi had to try a few times before he got it to work.

“Whoa, ho, ho,” he stammered as he overrode the phone’s lock with a tap of his fingers.

The Orwellian tech is actually more secure than Apple’s previ-i ous, fingerprint-based Touch ID — the old feature had a 1in-50,000 chance of unlocking a phone for the wrong fingerprint, and Face ID’s failure rate is 1 in a million, Federighi said.

And “all processing is done on the phone, not sent to a server” so it will be harder for hackers to steal your digital face, he said.

A new camera system that allows for facial recognition will also help people’s selfie game, execs said.

The phone will have dual main cameras that mechanically stabilize themselves for clearer shots — with the same 12-megapixel resolution as current models — as well as a 7 megapixel, frontfacing selfie camera.

And new animated emojis will let people direct the cartoon glyphs’ expressions using their own facial expressions.

“If you ever wondered what humanity would do if it had access to the most advanced facialrecognition technology, you now have your answer,” Federighi saidid as a giantit poo emojiji apedd hihis expressions on screen behind him during the announcement.

The Home button is gone, and nearly all of the phone’s front face is a screen — meaning users will control practically everything by tapping the 5.8-inch display, which has a higher resolution than previous models at 2436 x 1125 pixels.

Meanwhile, the company also announced a slightly less expensive new iPhone 8.

The offering — which will come in 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch models — is a beefed-up 7 that has some of iPhone X’s new features.

Highlights include wireless charging, faster guts, boosted camera functionality and better construction, according to company execs.

The smaller 8 will start at $699, while the larger 8 Plus will have a base price of $799. Both are expected to hit shelves Sept. 22.
