Making Deals With Dems: Trump’s Strange Bedfellows
President Trump’s voters wanted change from the empty promises of both the Republicans and Democrats (“The ‘Pivot’ Isn’t Genius,” Jonah Goldberg, Sept. 9).
Trump’s corny but patriotic “Make America Great Again” message resonated with us. We trusted his sincerity, needed a positive message and wanted action.
We are fed up with the phony political talkingheads in both parties. These lifelong politicians look chronically constipated and are out of touch.
Jonah Goldberg claims Trump doesn’t know what he is doing. Congress obviously doesn’t know what it’s doing because it’s doing nothing. At least Trump has a plan and will pivot to get it done. Linda Leary Tarrytown
By successfully negotiating with Sen. Chuck Schumer and Rep. Nancy Pelosi, Trump has put the Republican Party on notice that he’s an American first and a Republican second.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Speaker Paul Ryan have proven to be disappointments.
Trump has apparently calculated that Schumer is more likely to deliver the votes he needs than McConnell.

The three-month debtceiling extension will not hurt Trump’s agenda, nor will his DACA decision.
These moves put the ball in the Republicans’ court: We’ll see what they do with it.
