Stanford rapist a textbook example

- By LIA EUSTACHEWICH

The Stanford University swimmer who got a wristslap jail sentence for sexually assaulting an unconscious woman is now a textbook example of a “rapist.”

Brock Turner’s blearyeyed mug shot (inset) and details of his case appear in the “rape” section of “Introduction to Criminal Justice: Systems, Diversity, and Change, 2nd Edition.”

Turner served half of a six-month sentence for raping the woman at Stanford in 2015.

“Turner, a student at Stanford University, was caught in the act, and ultimately convicted of three felony charges: assault with intent to rape an intoxicated woman, sexually penetrating an intoxicated person with a foreign object, and sexually penetrating an unconscious person with a foreign object,” the college textbook reads, according to the Huffington Post.

“Turner’s victim was unconscious during the attack, as it happened behind a trash container outside of the Kappa Alpha fraternity house on campus.”

A picture of the textbook page was posted to Facebook by Washington State University freshman Hannah Kendall Shuman, who recognized Turner while doing homework.

“He may have been able to get out of prison time but in my Criminal Justice 101 textbook, Brock Turner is the definition of rape, so he’s got that goin for him,” she wrote.

The textbook, by Callie Marie Rennison and Mary J. Dodge, concludes its Turner coverage with a learning exercise:

“Some are shocked at how short this sentence is. Others who are more familiar with the way sexual violence has been handled in the criminal justice system are shocked that he was found guilty and served time at all. What do you think?”
