Kicker gets lift to meet his baby

- By PAUL SCHWARTZ

Last week, Aldrick Rosas sensed he was going to face a crossroads moment in his life. He was preparing to make his NFL debut in Dallas as the Giants’ kicker. His girlfriend, Tiffany Lopez, was pregnant in California with the couple’s first child, a daughter.

Realizing he could not be in two places at once, Rosas discussed the situation with coach Ben McAdoo.

“He said, ‘Don’t worry about it, we’re gonna take care of you,’” Rosas said Wednesday.

The Giants took care of Rosas. His 25-yard field goal produced the only points for the Giants ina 19-3 season-opening loss at Dallas — then he was whisked away on the private jet of co-owner Steve Tisch. The flight took him to Burbank, Calif., where he grabbed a connecting flight to Sacramento, and got to meet his infant daughter Karsyn for the first time.

“I was kind of floating everywhere,’’ Rosas said. “It was amazing. It’s a feeling you can’t really describe. I was told that all the time, and what a special moment it was when I first got to hold her. She’s an angel. She doesn’t make a sound or cry. She’s good, she’s healthy.’’

It would not have been possible had the Giants not intervened.

“It’s so amazing that the organization would even do that, coming from the owner and everybody working together to make my dream come true and meeting her,” Rosas said. “It says a lot about this organization and family and togetherness. I’m extremely grateful.”

The initial plan was for Rosas to be with Tiffany for the birth, which was to be induced on Monday, but she went into labor and gave birth Sunday morning, at 4:15 a.m. Central time. Rosas was able to watch the birth via FACETIME on his iPhone, which he said was “a little grainy.’’ He got back to the Giants’ facility Wednesday around 6 a.m.

“It’s been a crazy journey so far,” Rosa said. “I’m just taking it day by day and continuing to grow professionally, and as a father and a family.”

Looking back at his whirlwind Sunday, when he became a father and played in his first NFL game, Rosas said, “It was the best day I could have.’’
