Coach denies any Porzingis rift

- By MARC BERMAN

Jeff Hornacek said any notion he and Kristaps Porzingis are on the outs is false.

According to a source, the Porzingis-Hornacek dynamic last season was radioactive. Former Post columnist Peter Vecsey reported one of the reasons Porzingis infamously blew off his exit meeting was over an incident in which Hornacek once told Porzingis’ buddy Willy Hernangomez that the Latvian needed to “stop playing like a p---y.’’

“KP and I have a good relationship,” Hornacek said during Friday’s pre-camp presser. “I’m not going to comment on any reports that say otherwise. We texted with him all summer. We followed him through Euro basket. We’re very happy with his conditioning, the way he played out there, the way he took in the role of leader for that Latvian team. I think he’s excited to get back. We’re excited to get back at it.”

In May, Hornacek said he was hoping Porzingis doesn’t “dwell in the past.”

“Moving forward in this league, he’s going to get a lot of opportunities to grow into that lead position,” Hornacek said.“We’re just excited to get back to coaching and moving forward with him and trying to develop into that great player that we think he can become.”

Rookie point guard Frank Ntilikina elected to forgo playing for France in the European Championships to work out with the Knicks’ coaches in Tarrytown after missing summer league with a knee injury. The Knicks now have a stable of four point guards, and Hornacek said Ntilikina still will compete for the starting job, but with hardly any promises.

“We really like what we’re seeing in these pickup games,” Hornacek said. “He’s getting better and better every day. He’s never had any strength training. He’s just basically been playing. He’s a young kid, 19. He’s got long arms. He’s doing some great things.”
