Pol’s kid is fecal point of protest
Neighbors raise stink
Upper West Siders are poo-pooing a congresswoman’s daughter’s costly construction project.
The three-year feud over Dana Lowey Luttway’s town house renovation has become so vile that what appeared to be feces was smeared on the construction sign Friday afternoon, alongside a handwritten message: “scumbag pigs.”
While it’s unclear who was responsible for the dirty deed, neighbors of Luttway, whose mother is Rep. Nita Lowey (DWestchester), say the construction is so bothersome that some have relocated to escape the noise. The project, which includes the addition of a wine room, two studies and a 1,500-squarefoot roof garden, has accumulated 14 complaints, three stop-work orders and seven building department violations with fines worth $7,200 since February 2015.
Luttway, who is not living in the home, was quoted by DNAinfo Tuesday calling one neighbor, Joe Bolanos, a “menace” whom the other neighbors should “muzzle.” But neighbors are jumping to Bolanos’ defense.
“I think she owes Joe and the block an apology,” said Judith Rimerman, who lives several doors down.
Bolanos, who has lived on the block for 42 years, said dust from the project is harming his health. He volunteered with the Red Cross after Sept. 11 and receives care for his respiratory issues through the World Trade Center health program at Mount Sinai.
“She chooses to attack me for her poor construction management and her problematic contractor,” he said. “When she attacks me, she’s attacking our residents. I think that says a lot about her.”
Luttway told The Post on Friday she regrets the comments.
“I chose my words poorly,” she said. “I am looking forward to finishing this renovation, moving in and getting to know the neighbors on a personal level.”
