Sie’ing is believin’

-

Week 3 is upon us, and the games will have a difficult time matching the wild Thursday night shootout between the 49ers and Rams, who won 41-39 in a thriller. Here’s a look at the High Five things to watch this week: It appears time that we begin to recognize and credit Broncos quarterback Trevor Siemian, who is coming off a fourtouchdown performance against the Cowboys and has Denver atop the AFC West with a 2-0 record entering Sunday’s game at the Bills. Because he was a seventhround draft pick and because the Broncos drafted Paxton Lynch in the first round last season, it has been natural to overlook Siemian. But he beat out Lynch for the starting job, and he has been one of the big reasons for the Broncos’ fast start. Perhaps it is time we start taking Siemian more seriously. He is providing the perfect complement to defense-first Denver. “He has the poise of an eightor nine-year veteran,’’ Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib said. “He’s smart, and he’s super-accurate with the football. Trev could be a star in this league. If we do what we need to do on defense, Trev is going to be a star this year.’’

The Broncos, when they’ve had their Super Bowl success, always have had a star quarterback driving the bus. First there was John

Elway, who is in the Hall of Fame. Then there was Peyton Manning, who is headed for the Hall of Fame.

So this Siemian thing doesn’t really fit the script for Denver. But so what?

Typical of the humble, low-key Siemian, he has been sprinkling cold water on his hot start.

“It’s still so early,” he said. “We’re only two games into the season. I’m very, very happy, obviously, to start the way we have. But we’re going to Buffalo, and Buffalo doesn’t care if we’ve won two games or we’re 0-2.”
