OdellO Beckham Jr. celebrates one of hish two touchdowns by mimicking a dogdo relieving himself during the Giants’ mad scramble of a comeback. But it went for naught as the Eagles kicked a 61-yard FG at the gun in a brutal 27-24 loss that left the Giants in an 0-3 chasm.

PHILADELPHIA — As soon as the ball left Carson Wentz’s right hand, Eli Apple was thinking i nte rce pt i on. Next thing he knew, he was hit hard, and Alshon Jeffery had the ball.

“You already know the rest,” the second-year cornerback said.

The rest was a 27-24 Eagles victory, on the strength of Jake Elliott’s 61-yard f ield goal as time expired. But it was the previous play that gave him a shot to boot the longest field goal in Lincoln Financial Field history.

The Eagles were at their own 38-yard-line with seven seconds left in regulation. Wentz threw for Jeffery by the right sideline, 19 yards down the field. Apple and Janoris Jenkins were right there, but the two collided, enabling Jeffery to come down with the ball while the two cornerbacks wound up on the turf.

“We knew it was coming — well I knew it was coming,” Jenkins said. “I was trying to break [on the ball] before the receiver broke.”

Instead, he ran into Apple, who said they should have done a better job of commu- nicating. Both players agreed they needed to react faster, knowing the Eagles had to get out of bounds.

“I think I could’ve attacked the ball a little bit better,” Apple said.

It’s been a rough start to the season for the Giants’ first-round pick of a year ago, and it continued Sunday. He was twice called for long pass interference penalties, each time setting up Eagles touchdowns.

Apple disagreed with both calls, especially the second when he had inside position and Wentz’s pass intended for Torrey Smith didn’t seem catchable. The play after the 36-yard penalty, Corey Clement scored on a 15-yard run with 5:40 remaining to pull the Eagles even at 21.

“All I can say is I know I play hard,” Apple said, when asked to rate his performance through three games. “Sometimes s--t goes sideways.”
