Record-setting Emmy winner Julia Louis-Dreyfus announced on Thursday that she’s battling breast cancer. “1 in 8 women get breast cancer. Today, I’m the one,” the 56-year-old “Veep” star wrote in a statement posted on social media. “The good news is that I have the most glorious group of supportive and caring family and friends, and fantastic insurance through my union. “The bad news is that not all women are so lucky, so let’s fight all cancers and make universal health care a reality.” The “Seinfeld” alum didn’t reveal the severity of her diagnosis, and her publicist said no further details would be released at this time. “Julia is incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support and well wishes,” her rep said. Thousands of heartfelt messages poured in on Twitter, many from other celebrities. “Mama, find me. Let’s talk if you want,” tweeted actress Christina Applegate, who underwent a double mastectomy after a breast-cancer diagnosis in 2008. And “Pitch Perfect” actress Anna Kendrick tweeted, “I don’t think I realized how much I love this woman, who I don’t know. Love her more for speaking up for others in this moment.” HBO said Louis-Dreyfus learned of her diagnosis the day after last week’s Emmys, where she made history by winning her sixth consecutive best-actress award for playing Selina Meyer on “Veep.” The network said that the series’ writers would keep prepping for its final season, due out in 2018, but that production would be adjusted “as needed.” “Our love and support go out to Julia and her family at this time,” it said in a statement. “We have every confidence she will get through this with her usual tenacity and undaunted spirit, and look forward to her return to health and to HBO for the final season of ‘Veep.’ ” Louis-Dreyfus has been married to actor/comedian Brad Hall for 20 years. They have two sons, Charlie and Henry.
