-

The stabbing in a Bronx school serves to remind all New Yorkers of the failure of Chancellor Carmen Fariña and principals to enforce discipline in city high schools (“Murder in the classroom,” Sept. 28).

Principals have the discretion to install metal detectors; all schools should have them in 2017.

Why is there no accountability? Why are metal detectors optional?

Principals who reap lucrative tax-free pensions must be held accountable for student safety and safeguard it by installing metal detectors, hiring good guidance counselors and instituting a disciplinary code with teeth. Our kids deserve no less.

The fatal stabbing of a Bronx high-school student is a tragedy, but am I surprised? No.
