Will the Knicks kneel?

Players won’t say

- By LAURA ITALIANO

Preseason basketball began Saturday night, but Knicks players still aren’t tipping their hands on whether they’ll obey an NBA edict that teams stand for the national anthem at its first game Tuesday.

Whatever happens will be a show of team unity, said forward Lance Thomas.

“Whatever we do, we’re gonna do it as a team,” Thomas said during practice for the game against the Brooklyn Nets at Madison Square Garden. “I’m gonna speak to my teammate.”

Asked for his anthem plans, $72 million center Joakim Noah took a shot at President Trump for “dividing people” and noted that now the stakes are higher than last year, when Knicks players linked arms.

“Obviously, it’s a very confusing time in this country, and as athletes, we have platforms,” Noah said.

This year especially, “I feel like there’s more emphasis” on what players do during the anthem, Noah said.

“Shout out to [Colin] Kaepernick for that,” he added, referring to the unsigned NFL quarterback who began the controversy by sitting during the national anthem at a preseason football game last year.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver issued a memo Friday saying he expects players “to demonstrate your commitment to the NBA’s core values of equality, diversity, inclusion” . . . and to observe the rule to stand during the anthem.

Players complied by linking arms but staying on their feet for the anthem in the first preseason game, in which the Golden State Warriors — including Trump critic Stephen Curry — hosted the Denver Nuggets. The Lakers and Timberwolves likewise linked arms later Saturday.

Trump, meanwhile, continued to tweet: “Very important that NFL players STAND tomorrow, and always, for the playing of our National Anthem. “Respect our Flag and our Country!”
