Barrons: De Blasio has a town halluva nerve
The husband-and-wife team of Assemblyman Charles Barron and Councilwoman Inez Barron attacked Mayor de Blasio on Sunday for planning to host a town-hall meeting in their Brooklyn neighborhood weeks before the general election.
“We consider the mayor’s request for the council member to host a town-hall meeting in our East New York district a month before the general election disingenuous, self-serving and political opportunism,” the two wrote in a joint statement.
“The mayor already knows the needs of our district. He doesn’t need a town-hall meeting. He just needs to deliver to our district the projects and programs that have already been brought to his attention,” they wrote.
“We’re not going to be gamed like that,” Barron told The Post on Sunday.
De Blasio is scheduled to host the meeting Monday night with Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams. He has hosted more than 30 town halls throughout the city and usually cohosts them with the local City Council member.
But Councilwoman Barron’s name is a glaring omission on a recent City Hall press release.
De Blasio spokesman Eric Phillips did not directly address the Barrons’ criticisms, but noted that de Blasio holds town halls in every district “so he can hear neighborhood issues and needs directly from the community.”
