Terry’s highs and lows

- —MikePuma

With Terry Collins having managed his last game for the Mets before moving to the front office, here’s a look at the extremes the Amazin’s enjoyed and endured in his seven-season tenure: Highs

Nov. 23, 2010: Eleven years after last managing a major league game, Collins is hired as the 20th manager in Mets history, replacing Jerry Manuel.

Sept. 26, 2015: The Mets beat the Reds 10-2 to become NL East champions, sending Collins to the postseason for the first time in his managerial career.

Oct. 21, 2015: Collins becomes the fifth manager to lead the Mets into the World Series, as the team completes a four-game sweep of the Cubs in the NLCS.

Oct. 1, 2016: After rallying in the final six weeks of the season, the Mets beat the Phillies 5-3 to clinch a wild-card berth. Collins joins Bobby Valentine as the only manager in franchise history to reach the postseason in successive years. May 20, 2017: Collins manages his 1,013th game with the Mets to become the longesttenured manager in franchise history, moving ahead of Davey Johnson.

Lows

June 1, 2012: Johan Santana, rebounding from shoulder surgery, throws the first no-hitter in franchise history, after Collins allows the lefty to throw 134 pitches. Santana is never close to the same pitcher again.

Nov. 1, 2015: Collins sends Matt Harvey back to the mound to face the Royals in the ninth inning of Game 5 of the World Series. The Royals put two runners on base against Harvey before tying the game and winning in extra innings to secure the world championship.

April 13, 2016: Jeurys Familia is used for a five-out save against the Marlins — it was the closer’s third straight day of work. Collins is later backed publicly by general manager Sandy Alderson, but internally there are concerns the manager will burn out Familia.

Aug. 6, 2016: Jay Bruce is thrown out at the plate attempting to score the tying run against the Tigers, after Collins decides not to use a pinch runner for the slow-footed outfielder in a 6-5 loss.

May 12, 2017: The struggling Harvey, after five solid innings, is sent back to the mound for the sixth inning against the Brewers and implodes in the Mets’ 7-4 loss. Alderson later gives Collins an earful for leaving Harvey in the game.
