Jalin set for debut with ban served

The wait for Jalin Marshall may be over.

The Jets’ second-year receiver is likely to appear in his first game of the season Sunday against the Patriots. He served a four-week suspension to start the season under the NFL performance-enhancing drug rules, has been participating in practice for two weeks and was activated by the team this week.

As a rookie, he caught 14 passes for 162 yards and two touchdowns and also returned 31 kickoffs and punts in 10 games while playing through an injured shoulder.

“It’s like your body knows that you are getting close to something you want,” he said. “You get anxious. You get almost nervous — not playing football in a while it’s kind of like you want to remember what it feels like. I am just ready to get out there. The anticipation is high.”

Head coach Todd Bowles said Marshall “has looked good so far” at practice but wouldn’t commit to giving him a role for Sunday. Special-teams coordinator Brant Boyer said Marshall has been practicing on kick and punt returns.

“I’m pretty much caught back up on things mentally,” Marshall said. “Physically I am in great shape. I feel like I am in a good spot. I believe I am where they want me to be at now and I keep getting better each day.”

His suspension was for taking his prescription Adderall without first notifying the NFL. The Jets got a waiver to allow him to begin practicing during the final week of the ban. He already was familiar with what the Jets run on offense and special teams, so picking it back up wasn’t difficult.

“It isn’t like I just joined the team and practiced these two weeks,” Marshall said. “It wasn’t a transition I had to get my body back right and ready to play football. I’m looking forward to it a lot, man.”
