Jackrabbit jumped gun cause he thought game was over

Janoris “Jackrabbit” Jenkins said he left the field before the end of last Sunday’s loss to the Chargers because he thought the game was over. The Giants trailed 27-22, and the Chargers were in kneel-down mode when Ben McAdoo called a timeout with 38 seconds remaining. Following the timeout, Philip Rivers kneeled down a second time, and the time on the clock expired. Jenkins exited the field and headed to the locker room with 38 seconds left. “I didn’t expect the timeout to be called, so I just walked in. Everybody was going on the field. The game was over and I just went in,’’ Jenkins said Thursday after practice.

McAdoo said he would handle the matter internally.

Jenkins said he and McAdoo had two conversations about the premature exit, the first Tuesday and the second on Thursday.

“He came to me and asked me and I told him. We had a nice little talk and that was it,’’ Jenkins said. “It wasn’t nothing serious.’’

Asked if he would be disci- plined, Jenkins said, “I mean, why would there be a punishment?’’ and then quickly added, “No comment.’’

The Jenkins incident came on the same day fellow cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie went into the locker room in the second half, angered by what was happening in the game and his role in the defense. He was first told he would be benched for Sunday night’s game in Denver, and after he left the team facility on Wednesday before practice, McAdoo decided to suspend him indefinitely.

“Just stick together,’’ Jenkins said, when asked about the mood in the locker room. “We know adversity is gonna hit from all type of angles and just staying focused and being there for one another.

“We still together. There’s people that try to cause distractions but we keep our head together, stay tight and stay together.’’

Asked if the DRC situation is a distraction, Jenkins said, “Ah man, no comment. No comment.’’
