Don: Let’s fix O’Care
President Trump lashed out at ObamaCare Friday, saying it was “imploding” — and suggested Democrats help fix it.
“ObamaCare is a broken mess. Piece by piece we will now begin the process of giving America the great HealthCare it deserves!” the president tweeted.
In an earlier tweet, he said: “The Democrats ObamaCare is imploding. Massive subsidy payments to their pet insurance companies has stopped. Dems should call me to fix!”
The White House said late Thursday it would cease subsidy payments to insurers that help lower co-pays and deductibles for the poor.
But Trump has told at least one lawmaker that the payments may continue if a bipartisan deal is reached on heath care, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Trump has persistently called for getting rid of the 2010 Affordable Care Act, but Republicans have been unable to muster the votes to get a repeal-and-replace bill through the Senate.
Trump’s administration has continued making monthly disbursements to insurers, known as cost-sharing reduction payments, worth about $7 billion this year.
Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) accused Trump of seeking to dismantle ObamaCare out of spite.
“Latest reason why President Trump is the worst President in modern history: Deliberately undermining people’s health care out of spite,” Schiff tweeted on Friday.
The Congressional Budget Office said in August that stopping the payments would raise premiums and increase the number of uninsured.
