BATTLE OF BULL RUN
In Brooklyn, of all places
A rogue calf went on the lam in Brooklyn Tuesday, breaking free from a slaughterhouse, only to be foiled by a soccer-goal net.
The young bull escaped from a slaughterhouse on Fourth Avenue near 16th Street and made a mad dash for Prospect Park, where it knocked a 2-year-old girl out of her carriage, police sources said.
The high-steaks chase continued for at least two hours before the bold bovine was finally shot with a tranquilizer dart and corralled into a horse trailer.
“The poor thing, he didn’t know what to do — and neither did the cops! We needed a cowboy,” said neighbor Yvonne Felix, 42, who watched the drama unfold near the Prospect Park parade grounds.
NYPD Emergency Services Unit cops cornered the steer near a soccer goal while amused onlookers stood by and four helicopters hovered overhead.
As police tried to wrangle the raging bull, it got tangled in the net and knocked over a policewoman.
“He took me down when he crashed into the soccer net,” the officer said, adding that she wasn’t physically injured — “just my pride!”
A live video feed showed the fugitive farm animal standing in the field, looking confused, as at least six officials, including Animal Care Center workers, closed in.
A crowd of about 200 people gathered to watch city-slicker workers try to corner the calf. Many of them gasped when the bull was struck with the tranquilizer.
The animal was transported to Skylands Animal Sanctuary in Wantage, NJ, an official said.
The toddler mowed down by the bull was treated for minor injuries.
