Hound about town

NYers help find dog roaming 2 boroughs

A local woman got New Yorkers to band together on Friday to help find her dog after he escaped her friend’s clutches and went on an 8-hour tour of the Big Apple — crossing the Brooklyn Bridge into Manhattan and hitting up all the sights along the way, she said.

“He was having the adventure of his life,” explained Gwen Wunderlich, who spoke to The Post by phone after finally tracking down her pup, Cash.

“I guess he figured, ‘My mom is off to Costa Rica, that’s it! Cash me outside!’ ”

Wunderlich had been on a flight to Central America when she first learned from her friend that Cash, a chow mix, was on the loose. It was around 7 a.m. — and the news sent her into a panic.

“My heart was on fire,” she said. “I was so scared and nervous. I got up as the plane was moving on the tarmac. I was visibly shaken. While it’s just a dog to some people, that’s my baby. I had to talk to the pilot.”

Despite there being a plane full of passengers, Wunderlich said she somehow convinced flight staff to turn the aircraft around and let her deplane at the gate.

“I told the stewardess what had happened, but I’m honestly not sure if she told the pilot,” admitted the Brooklyn woman.

Fearing the worst, Wunderlich took to Facebook at around 12:20 p.m. to ask for help.

“URGENT URGENT- MY BOY CASH ( THE CHOW) HAS BEEN LOST SINCE 7AM. SIGHTING IN MANHATTAN- please share!” she wrote.

Cash was spotted in at least two boroughs, Brooklyn and Manhattan. Wunderlich said that she got calls from the NYPD, saying numerous people had spotted him on the Brooklyn Bridge — trotting along the roadway portion toward the city.

She said several people then saw the courageous canine near One World Trade Center. At one point, he made his way uptown — enjoying the local scenery and plethora of fire hydrants on the Upper West Side — before heading back down to the West Village.

Cash was finally found by animal control workers around 3:30 p.m. in a deli near Eighth Avenue and 18th Street. Naturally, he was laid up behind the cash register.

“I thought that was so funny,” recalled his worried owner. “He seemed tired and a little bewildered, but happy to see me.”
