THE POST’S TOP TEN

-

1. Alabama (8-0) (Last week: 1)

The Crimson Tide will face better competition during their bye week than they have in the watereddown SEC, having defeated their five league foes by an average of 40 points per game.

2. Penn State (7-0) (2)

Quarterback Trace McSorley picked a perfect time to produce a careerbest three rushing touchdowns, keying Penn State’s 42-13 destruction of Michigan.

3. TCU (7-0) (3)

Kenny Hill’s interceptions are down and his completion percentage is way up. The senior is having his best season and TCU has followed his lead.

4. Georgia (7-0) (4)

Kirby Smart isn’t getting enough coach-of-the-year buzz despite guiding Georgia to its best start since 2005.

5. Clemson (6-1) (5)

Clemson will have had 15 days to let the loss to Syracuse marinate. Godspeed, Georgia Tech, you’ll be walking into a buzz saw in Death Valley.

6. Ohio State (6-1) (7)

The Buckeyes have allowed 11.2 points per game during this five-game winning streak. We’ll see if this was the direct result of facing patsies when they meet Penn State and Saquon Barkley on Saturday in Columbus.

7. Notre Dame (6-1) (NR)

It’s not just the winning streak, it’s the dominant fashion in which the Irish have won five in a row, all by 20 points or more. The last time that happened in South Bend? 1966.

8. Wisconsin (7-0) (6)

The Big Ten needs to examine how it schedules crossover games. There’s no valid reason for Wisconsin, the Big Ten West champion last year and on its way again this year, not to face Penn State, the reigning Big Ten East champion, during the regular season.

9. Miami (6-0) (8)

Style points don’t seem to interest the Hurricanes. They like to sweat, spending their third consecutive Saturday needing a big finish to remain undefeated.

10. Oklahoma (6-1) (10)

Unless the Sooners’ suddenly porous defense fixes itself soon — the unit is allowing 34.5 points over the last month — Oklahoma won’t sniff the playoff. Dropped out: USC (6-2)
