Rodgers-Cromartie not miffed by reduced role
Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie was no longer suspended but he came into Sunday’s game knowing he was not going to receive his normal workload.
“Yeah, I knew I wasn’t going to play much,’’ RodgersCromartie said after a 24-7 loss to the Seahawks. “Just throw me in here and there, that’s hard to come off the sideline and be focused and be prepared but I knew my role and I was ready for it.’’
Asked why he knew he would have a reduced role, Rodgers-Cromartie said “I just came off a suspension.’’
Ben McAdoo said DRC’s usage had nothing to do with any lingering discipline.
“We wanted to use a variety of defensive backs and they all played a significant role in the game,’’ he said.
Rodgers-Cromartie was suspended and did not play last week after violating team rules.
“When you get old you take it how you want to take it,’’ Rodgers-Cromartie said. “I can’t complain or get mad about when I’m in or out. When my name is called I just got to be ready. I know it’s a long football season and I know one thing about corners, we always get hurt, so I know I’m gonna get a chance to get back in there.’’
Rookie kicker Aldrick Rosas with the Giants trailing 10-7 missed a 47-yard field goal wide right early in the fourth quarter. “I let the whole organization down, I let all the fans down, I let the whole team down,’’ Rosas said. “Doesn’t feel good to let everyone down.’’
The Giants did not need to lose a linebacker, already playing without Jonathan Casillas, but they lost B.J. Goodson in the second quarter to an ankle injury that kept the second-year middle linebacker out the remainder of the game.
Another starter, right tackle Justin Pugh, went down and out in the third quarter with a back injury. He was replaced by Bobby Hart, who has started three games this season but most recently was benched. Hart was called for a false start in the third quarter. Safety Nat Berhe, seldom-used, was in the game plan and used extensively until the third, when he left to be evaluated for a possible concussion. He was later cleared.
Rookie WR Travis Rudolph got his first career NFL reception in the third quarter, a 15-yard catch.
D.J. Fluker, added to the injury report on Saturday with a knee issue, started at right guard. He said he took a helmet to the knee during Thursday’s practice.
