Plane is ‘Thunder’ struck

- Alex Squadron, Wires

This flier was tougher than any Hawk or Pelican the Oklahoma City Thunder have ever faced.

A very unlucky bird slammed into a charter flight carrying the NBA team from Minneapolis to Chicago early Saturday during landing, denting the plane’s nose and prompting stunned players to speculate about the cause of the incredible damage.

“What possibly could we have hit in the SKY at this time of night?” former Knick Carmelo Anthony wrote on Instagram, adding, “Everyone is safe, though.”

Center Steven Adams called on a trio of brainiacs — scientist Bill Nye, astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson and all of NASA — for answers about the plane’s caved-in nose (above).

“We had a rough flight to say the least,” Adams tweeted. “30,000 feet in the air. Flying to Chicago. What caused this?”

And Josh Huestis wrote on Twitter: “I guess we hit something? 30,000 feet up...”

The Boeing 757-200 landed without incident at Midway International Airport, said Delta Air Lines spokeswoman Elizabeth Wolf.

She said the mishap was likely caused by a collision with a bird of unknown species.

A spokesperson for the team told The Oklahoman newspaper that all of its players, staff and coaches were safe.

The team was leaving the Twin Cities after losing to the Minnesota Timberwolves 119-116.
