Anderson a bright spot on dark day

Wide receiver Robby Anderson may have been one of the only players who felt comfortable on the field Sunday, and it showed.

It poured throughout the Jets’ 25-20 loss to the Falcons at MetLife Stadium, but Anderson had a monster day, catching all six of his targets for a career-high 104 yards and a touchdown.

“It’s kind of a mind thing,” Anderson said, when asked about not letting the rain affect his play. “Growing up in Florida, that’s frequent — thunderstorms and sunshine mixture throughout your games. It’s just a matter of blocking it out and focusing on the ball.”

Anderson burned Pro Bowl cornerback Desmond Trufant on a 24-yard score in the second quarter.

“The release made it an easy throw for Josh [McCown] and that just comes from film study and extra work and preparation,” he said.

After Quincy Enunwa went down with a neck injury in August, there were high expectations for the 24-year-old Anderson. He has disappeared at times this season, overshadowed by late additions to the receiving corps Jermaine Kearse and Jeremy Kerley.

But performances like this one serve as a pleasant reminder of Anderson’s potential.

“He was excellent,” McCown said. “Robby’s just continuing to step into the kind of next realm, that next ech- elon of the player that we believe he can be.”

“He’s an explosive guy,” Kearse said. “The speed that he has to be able to stretch the field, guys have to respect it.”

Anderson received criticism — and a $12,154 fine — for tossing his helmet in frustration at the end of last week’s 31-28 loss to the Dolphins. Yet the second-year player didn’t exactly need the extra motivation to redeem himself.

“Honestly, I always feel like I have something to prove. I always come out with an attitude,” Anderson said. “I keep that chip on my shoulder because I know it’s a lot of people who doubt me.”
