Yankee Candle pops up in Soho

- Lois Weiss

Everyone’s decorating obsession, Yankee Candle, is opening a holiday pop-up in Soho that will include its other brands, WoodWick and Chesapeake Bay.

The 5,340-square-foot store, CandlePower, will debut at 503 Broadway next to Zara on Nov. 9 and remain through Jan. 3.

With the new retailing mantra of experiential shopping, CandlePower has been designed to entice all five senses with immersive displays.

Shoppers can create and personalize their own candles, sample smells, test their fragrance IQs and explore Yankee Candle crafts. The store offers Manhattan deliveries for $10 and free shipping for purchases of over $100.

There are also four exclusive limited-edition candles evoking New York: WoodWick Soho, Yankee Candle City Lights, Chesapeake Bay’s Fall in Central Park and New York City at Dawn.

Yankee Candle, which has 500 freestanding shops, said it chose the area for this triple-brand pop-up as it was “inspired by the energy of the Soho neighborhood.”

Joanne Podell and Aylin Gucalp of Cushman & Wakefield represented the building owner. The asking rent was not disclosed. Broadway rents, which had recently been as high as $800 per square foot for the ground floor, have been falling.

A short-term pop-up would also be negotiated on a one-off basis.
