How do you get to Carnegie? The Web
Carnegie Deli, the Big Apple legend that closed its doors nearly a year ago, will soon be serving up its gut-busting sandwiches again — this time on the internet.
The storied pastrami pusher, which licenses outposts in Las Vegas, Madison Square Garden and a handful of other similar destinations, is being resurrected by Goldbely, a 4-year-old delivery startup whose mission is to make some of America’s best-known food available around the country.
Hungry customers from Brooklyn to Berkeley, Calif., will now be able to order a half-dozen of Carnegie’s most popular menu items.
Among those are the four-inch-high Woody Allen pastrami and corned beef sandwich on rye with mustard and cheesecake for dessert. A Woody Allen sandwich for eight will sell for $129 — and be delivered in a chilled container.
Goldbely, which currently works with Gotham landmarks like Joe’s Pizza, Katz’s Deli and H&H Bagel, will be shipping Carnegie products from the deli’s commissary in Carlstadt, NJ, which used to supply the restaurant.
“It’s coming from the same family that always owned Carnegie Deli,” Goldbely Chief Executive Joe Ariel told the Post. “It’s the same recipe that made them famous.”
According to Ariel, a native New Yorker who recently moved home from San Francisco, Goldbely’s goal is to spark emotions — as well as meet a hunger for the best in deli food.
“Whether they’re expat New Yorkers or people who have visited and gone back home, all of a sudden they can reconnect to [classic New York] memories,” he said.
