Sex claim roils race for ’bama Senate

- Mark Moore, Wires

An Alabama woman has accused Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore of sexually assaulting her decades ago when she was 14 years old and he was 32, it was reported Thursday.

Leigh Corfman said Moore asked her out after meeting her and her mother in 1979 outside an Alabama courthouse where he was a prosecutor, she told The Washington Post.

On the first date, Moore kissed her, she said. On the second, he allegedly took off their clothes, touched her over her bra and underpants, and put her hand over his underwear.

“I wasn’t ready for that — I had never put my hand on a man’s penis, much less an erect one,” Corfman said. “I wanted it over with — I wanted out.”

Three other women also told the newspaper that Moore romantically pursued them when he was in his 30s and they were in their teens — 16, 17 and 18.

Several Republicans, led by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, said if the allegations are true, Moore should quit the Dec. 12 special election against Democrat Doug Jones for the seat vacated by US Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

Moore, 70, blamed “liberal media lapdogs.”

“The forces of evil will lie, cheat, steal — even inflict physical harm — if they believe it will silence and shut up Christian conservatives like you and me,” he tweeted.
