Posada’s aid to Puerto Rico

-

FORMER Yankees catcher Jorge Posada and his wife, Laura, threw a fund-raiser for hurricane-devastated Puerto Rico. The couple were joined by stars including Carlos Beltrán, CC Sabathia, David Cone, team legend Bernie Williams and Mets ace pitcher Noah Syndergaard at Midtown hot spot Hunt & Fish Club on Sunday night. Jorge (inset) told Page Six that he has traveled to his home island five times since Hurricanes Irma and Maria hit in September. He said, “It has been very hard to witness — the need in Puerto Rico. Two-thirds of the people are living still without power, without access to basic provisions. My sister, who lives in a nice area, is taking the water from her swimming pool and boiling it to provide drinking water for her family and others.” Laura added that they have been able to charter around 15 planes to fly aid to those in need. She said, “We have good organization on the ground, so the aid is getting to the people who need it most, without getting tied up in government red tape.” She added that the planes returned carrying people with serious medical conditions who needed to be evacuated and had family or friends meeting them in Miami. Guests including “Orange Is the New Black” star Selenis Leyva mingled with Hunt & Fish restaurateurs Eytan Sugarman and Nelson Braff. But the star attraction was Williams, who was happily approached by a series of fans, including Syndergaard in an eyecatching burgundy plaid checked suit. Williams, an accomplished guitarist, also joined OneRepublic star Ryan Tedder for a performance onstage. Bernie’s performance was so impromptu that restaurant staff had gone out and bought an acoustic guitar just as the event started.
