Cops fatally shoot Bx. stabber

-

Cops shot and killed a knife-wielding resident of a Bronx homeless shelter Monday night after he stabbed two security guards, police said.

Officers arrived at Urban Pathways on Hughes Avenue at around 7:30 p.m. as the man was assaulting the two women, according to law-enforcement sources.

The attacker was identified as 68-year-old Cornell Lockhart, who had lived at the facility for 11 years.

He jumped over a counter to attack the guards, ages 48 and 29, a law-enforcement source said.

Responding officers ordered him over and over to drop his weapon, according to NYPD Chief of Patrol Terence Monahan.

“The officers proceeded to give verbal commands to drop the knife,” he said.

“The officers repeated these commands more than 20 times.”

When Lockhart didn’t drop the blade — a 4-inch kitchen knife — cops opened fire, according to police.

By then, one victim had been stabbed in the chest, the other in the arm. The woman with the chest wound was rushed into surgery.

Lockhart was reported missing in August, according to the NYPD’s 48th Precinct station house, but had since returned.

Urban Pathways was the scene of a fatal stabbing last year when a 46-year-old man knifed a fellow resident, who was 70. Joe Marino, Shawn Cohen, Larry Celona
