‘Hillary sub’ Joe: I didn’t kn now

- Bob Fredericks

Joe Biden said Monday he had no clue that the head of the Democratic National Committee had considered recruiting him to replace Hillary Clinton as the party’s 2016 presidential nominee.

Biden’s remarks came during a discussion on NBC’s “Today” show of former interim DNC chair Donna Brazile’s contention that she thought about having Biden step in for an ailing Clinton.

“I give you my word, the first time I or any of my staff heard of anything about that was in the book, No. 1,’’ the former vice president (right) said.

“And No. 2, I wouldn’t have taken it,” he added. “I was for Hillary. At that point I made a judgment — well before that — that I was not prepared to run for president. I would never have done that.”

Clinton, he said, would have been a “first-rate president.”

In her book, “Hacks: The Inside Story of the Break-ins and Breakdowns That Put Donald Trump in the White House,” Brazile wrote that there were concerns about Clinton’s health and a replacement was considered.

She added that she eventually decided against the move, saying she felt she couldn’t end the historic campaign of the first female presidential nominee of a major party.
