Grope claims vs. Times WH journo

-

The New York Times suspended star White House reporter Glenn Thrush on Monday after he was accused of sexually harassing and groping young women for years.

Four women described “a range of similar experiences, from unwanted groping and kissing to wet kisses out of nowhere to hazy sexual encounters that played out under the influence of alcohol,” according to a story on Vox, whose author also claims that Thrush had made unwanted advances on her.

Laura McGann worked with Trush at Politico, during which time she says he trapped her in a booth at a bar after work one night and tried to kiss her before she rebuffed his advances.

The next day, she claims Thrush spread gossip among male colleagues that she had come on to him.

The married Thrush, 50, was also accused of groping and trying to kiss another young former Politico reporter in June after drinks at a bar, and then walking off while she cried.

“Nice meeting you!” Thrush wrote to her the next day, fol- lowed by, “(And apologies?)” in an e-mail published by Vox.

Thrush on Monday apologized generally in a statement — but insisted his encounter with McGann was “consensual, brief, and ended by me.”

“I apologize to any woman who felt uncomfortable in my presence, and for any situation where I behaved inappropriately. Any behavior that makes a woman feel disrespected or uncomfortable is unacceptable,” he said.

He blamed his bad behavior on heavy drinking, but says he stopped in June and plans to enter a substance-abuse program.

The Times suspended him while it investigates.

“The behavior attributed to Glenn in this Vox story is very concerning and not in keeping with the standards and values of The New York Times,” spokeswoman Eileen Murphy said.

Thrush recently scored a sevenfigure deal to co-author a book about the Trump White House. Publisher Random House said it is “looking at [the matter] closely and seriously.”
