Straphanging rat ignites panic in subway car
What a bunch of scaredy cats! A rat hopped aboard a city subway car — and promptly ignited a frenzy, with terrified passengers scrambling up on their seats and shrieking in fear.
The commuting critter was captured on cellphone video scampering around the Queensbound A train last week.
The 1-minute, 23-second clip shows the rat running up and down the car as passengers erupt in squeals, screams and laughter.
Several stand on their seats to stay out of the rodent’s path, while the more cool-headed riders simply raise their legs.
“Don’t come over here!” one man hollers at the rat. “Where’s he at?” asks another. Uladzimir Taukachou uploaded the video Tuesday to YouTube with the title, “A fun ride in A train to Far Rockaway with a Rat.”
Taukachou wrote in the video’s description that he was on the train with his wife, Mariya, when they heard a scream.
“It was a fun ride for 1 station,” he wrote. “The rat was really scared of all these crazy people screaming. On the next stop rat jumped out of the train.”
The clip had garnered more than 173,000 views by late Monday.
YouTube users shared their thoughts on the rogue rider.
“I had a pet rat. So cute little animal. Nothing to be afraid of,” user Valet2 commented.
Another wrote, “Poor thing! I mean, it’s huge, and I’d probably s- -t myself, cause I’m scared of rats, but she’s cute anyway.”
