Girl, 13, ‘raped by ed. perv’
The leader of a cityfunded after-school group at a Bronx middle school allegedly raped a 13-year-old student after luring her to his home, police said.
The victim attends The Angelo Patri School on Webster Avenue in Fordham Heights, where Michael Jenkins, 24, works as an after-school supervisor, police said.
In a series of text messages Sunday, Jenkins convinced the child to skip school the next day and meet with him instead, police sources said.
The girl went to Jenkins’ Anderson Avenue home in Highbridge where he allegedly raped her, sources said.
She told police on Wednesday, sources added.
Jenkins (inset) was arrested Wednesday and charged with rape, sex abuse, criminal sex act, forcible touching and endangering the welfare of a child. He was awaiting arraignment Thursday night.
He does not work for the city, but is a subcontractor for the Department of Education through the Mott Haven-based nonprofit organization East Side House Settlement, officials said.
Jenkins has three prior arrests related to marijuana, sources said, but had clearances to work for the nonprofit from the state and city agencies that oversee background checks, according to City Hall.
City Hall spokesperson Olivia Lapeyrolerie said Jenkins was “immediately suspended without pay and he is no longer permitted in any schools.”
