Hamstring has Anderson status uncertain

- By FRED KERBER

Robby Anderson, the Jets’ second-leading receiver, sustained a hamstring injury Thursday that could affect his availability Sunday in Denver.

Coach Todd Bowles was typically tight-lipped as to the extent and severity of Anderson’s ailment. Need to know the location of the U.S. missile silos? Bowles probably would have shared that. Anderson’s condition? Dream on.

“Robby Anderson was limited [in practice], ham- string,” said Bowles who indicated the injury “probably” occurred Thursday during practice in Florham Park and that the setback was “hopefully not” serious.

Asked if Anderson would play Sunday, Bowles said, “Don’t know yet. We’ll see.”

Offensive coordinator John Morton stresses it is not up to him, but he thinks Josh McCown should return as the Jets quarterback next season and would like to see the veteran back.

“Sure. Why wouldn’t I? Guys, look at the stats. But I don’t make that decision,” Morton said. “He’s playing at a high level. I don’t care what age he is, he’s doing a great job — managing this offense. Like I said, he’s got a wealth of experience and that is helping big time.

“We couldn’t have done it without him, for sure.” Matt Forte once felt 10 was enough. But now in his 10th season, the twotime Pro Bowl running back wants to prolong his career.

“I’m still playing at a high level. I’m able to play. I think I can continue to do it,” said Forte, who turns 32 Sunday. “It’s something you obviously have to take into context of talking to your family and all that stuff and also you look at the team as well and where we’re headed. There are a lot of factors. When I first came into the league I said I’d like to play at least 10 years.”

DL Leonard Williams is among the league’s best in quarterback hits. But he has only two sacks on the season to show for it.

“In a position like mine, people want to see the sacks, those type of stats,” said Williams, who claimed he is fully healed from a sprained wrist that affected him early in the season. “The numbers aren’t where I want them to be, but as a D-lineman, being a player and not just someone looking from the outside in, we know what a defensive lineman is and that’s being able to be disruptive even though I don’t have the sack numbers. I’m still, being disruptive, still helping the team as much as possible.

“Getting the quarterback off the spot, hitting him making him uncomfortable. ... All those are great ways of being a good Dlineman.”

ILB Bruce Carter (groin) did not practice. CB Juston Burris (concussion), G Brian Winters (abdomen) were limited along with Forte and Anderson.
