Prez rally cry: Give me Moore!
Pitch for accused ’Bama perv
President Trump whipped up supporters Friday night at a Florida Panhandle rally across the border from Alabama and urged everyone in that state to vote for GOP accused child predator Roy Moore in Tuesday’s special Senate election.
Trump spent time lambasting Doug Jones, Moore’s Democratic opponent, but barely mentioned Moore during an hour-plus speech in Pensacola.
“So get out and vote for Roy Moore,” Trump said after a tick- ing off a litany of reasons not to vote for Jones. “We cannot afford — this country, the future of this country, cannot afford to lose a seat in the very, very close United States Senate.”
Moore, who had a 7-point lead in an Alabama poll released Friday, has been accused of sexual improprieties by several women who said he had accosted and pestered them when they were in their teens and he was in his 30s.
But Trump cast the contest as a choice between a Republican who wants to advance the president’s agenda and a Democrat who wants to de- stroy the country.
“Democrats in Congress want open borders, higher taxes and government-run health care that doesn’t work,” Trump said. “They are soft on crime. And they want to suffocate our economy with socialist-style regulation. Raise your taxes through the sky. They don’t want to vote for our tax cuts because they want the — they want tax increases.”
The president added, “We need somebody in that Senate seat who will vote for our Make America Great Again agenda, which involves tough on crime, strong on borders, strong on immigration.”
During the flight aboard Air Force One to Florida, White House spokesman Raj Shah told reporters that ultimately Trump’s endorsement was “about the issues.”
“We find these allegations [against Moore] to be troubling and concerning and they should be taken seriously,” Shah said.
Trump, however, criticized Moore’s accusers — casting doubt on their claims, adding about attorney Gloria Allred: “Any time you see her, you know something’s going wrong.”
