Franken’s Fall From Grace: The Apology That Wasn’t

-

Do we really believe Sen. Al Franken’s thinly veiled attempt at morality, or that he’s stepping down for the good of his party and women (“That’s Al, Folks,” Dec. 8)?

Franken is stepping down so the Democrats can say, “Look at us, we take women’s rights and sexualmisconduct allegations seriously, unlike the Republicans and Roy Moore.”

All the Democrats truly care about is winning Alabama. Tommy Dejulio New Rochelle

Franken, a fervent foot soldier for radical feminism, had no inkling that his pervy proclivities would overshadow all that work defending Planned Parenthood.

But don’t be fooled — when it comes to Democrats, it’s all about the politics. They could be making sacrificial lambs out of Franken and Rep. John Conyers just so that they can redeploy the “Access Hollywood” tape gambit against Trump.

Franken is stepping down after sexual-misconduct charges by several women, one of whom released a picture showing him groping her breasts while she slept.

In announcing his plans to step down, he said that the man who sits in the Oval Office was accused of the same type of behavior.

Is this is what politicians have stooped to? Pointing fingers and justifying the abuse of women because a man in a higher office got away with it?

Not all our past presi- dents were role models when it came to women.

It’s a good thing Franken stepped down, because he’s a moron. John Buonagura Stewart Manor

What a disgusting resignation Franken gave to his fellow Senators.

He offered no apologies for his unspeakable actions. He tooted his horn like he was the savior of the Senate. He won’t be missed by me. Skip McGrory Stewart Manor

Just when Franken had a chance to show some integrity, he used that moment to try to bring the president down to his level.

President Trump bragging to another man in private, although disgusting, is not the same offense as Franken pawing a woman while she sleeps or hands-on harassment.

Soon-to-be ex-Sen. Franken misses the point in his whine that he is being treated differently from Trump and Moore.

Trump was elected after the revelations of his comments were made very public. If Moore wins the election, Alabama voters will have been aware of the accusations against him.

Franken should resign, then run in the special election that will follow. If he is reelected, fair enough. David Webber Old Greenwich, Ct.

To suggest that Democrats got rid of Conyers and Franken for “moral” reasons is a joke.

Both left a trail of physical evidence — a picture and a harassment settlement.

The Democrats will not lose either seat. Minnesota has a Democratic governor to appoint his successor, and Detroit only votes one way.

The GOP will do the same if Moore wins. He’ll be thrown out, and a Republican governor will name his successor. The swamp cannot be drained. Peter Provenzale Somerset, NJ

Franken is leaving but claims he did nothing wrong.

He put his hands on a sleeping woman’s breasts and had it photographed.

What’s his excuse? “Republicans have done the same thing I did.”

He’s a slob and a hypocrite. Hugh Masterson East Meadow

Franken claimed, “I know in my heart that nothing I have done as a senator has brought dishonor to this institution.”

I can’t think of anything more dishonorable, to the Senate and our nation, than Franken’s disrespect toward women. Rodrigo Saenz Queens
