WEIRD BUT VIEW

Netflix mocks fans

- By RAQUEL LANERI

Netflix is watching you. On Monday, the company released its streaming stats for 2017 — and took to social media to call out customers’ viewing hhabits. “To the 53 people who’ve watched ‘A Christmas Prince’ every day for the past 18 days: Who hurt you?” Netflix tweeted Monday

The streaming-giant-produced romcom isn’t the only flick subscribers are playing on repeat. One fan watched “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl” 365 days in a row, while some poor parent (we’re guessing) had to sit through the Jerry Seinfeld 2007 animated buzzkill “Bee Movie” 357 times.

Worldwide, Netflix’s 109 million members watched roughly 140 million hours of content a day in 2017, and the typical subscriber watched 60 movies over the past year.

The most popular shows to binge-watch, or view more than two hours in one day, were the mock true-crime series “American Vandal,” which was No. 1, and “13 Reasons Why,” a controversial drama about teen suicide, which was No. 3. Between them, at No. 2, was “3%,” geared for Brazilian audiences.

Rounding out the top 10 binge-watched shows were

. “Anne with an E,” “Riverdale,” the Spanish-language “Ingobernale,” Travelers,” The Keepers,” “The “OA” and “The Confession Tapes.”

The most popular show to watch episodically, or less than two hours a day, was “The Crown.”

Netflix has long collected data on its users’ habits: It came up with the idea of an American “House of Cards” because it noticed that fans of the original UK show also liked movies with Kevin Spacey, the US series’ nowdisgraced star, and director David Fincher, the show’s executive producer.

This is the first year Netflix has made its year-in-review data public.

The most popular day for using the service was Jan. 1.

Netflix isn’t the only streaming provider calling out users’ habits. Spotify has launched a campaign mocking users’ uncool musical tastes from the sides of billboards.
