A prominent surgeon best known for treating Bono had been stripped of his privileges to practice at New-York-Pres-by-terian/Weill Cornell Medical Center days before his apparent suicide, a law-enforcement source said Monday.

Dr. Dean Lorich was told Friday he would be persona non grata at the Upper East Side hospital, an investigator told The Post. On Sun- day, he was found dead in his Park Avenue apartment, a knife sticking from his chest.

“It was a big deal” to lose his hospital privileges, he source said.

It’s believed Lorich backed the wrong horse in a political battle at the hospital, leading to his ouster, the source added.

A medical-center spokeswoman declined to comment on the sur- geon’s status there. She would only refer to a hospital statement made Sunday night: “We mourn this tragic development and extend our deepest sympathies to Dr. Lorich’s family.”

Lorich performed extensive surgery on Bono after the U2 rocker lost control of his bike in Central Park in 2014, sustaining multiple arm, shoulder and facial fractures.

Lorich was sued in 2016 by former Giants running back Michael Cox, who blamed him for ending his football career.

Lorich performed surgery after Cox broke his leg in 2014, shortly before Bono’s accident, mending the player’s fibula but failing to fix his damaged ankle, according Cox’s lawyer, Steven North.
