NFL: Jets place McCown on IR

-

The Jets officially placed quarterback Josh McCown on injured reserve Tuesday after he broke his left hand during Sunday’s loss to the Broncos. To take McCown’s roster spot, the Jets signed running back Akeem Judd from their practice squad. That could be a sign they are pessimistic about Elijah McGuire playing Sunday against the Saints. McGuire injured his ankle in the loss in Denver. There was no announcement about receiver Jeremy Kerley, who is eligible to return from his PED suspension. — Brian Costello

The Giants signed two players off other teams’ practice squads, adding offensive lineman Damien Mama from the Chiefs and receiver Hunter Sharp from the Broncos. Sharp has played in one NFL game and Mama has yet to make his NFL debut. — Paul Schwartz

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, out since he broke his collarbone on a hit by the Vikings’ Anthony Barr on Oct. 15, posted on Instagram that he has been medically cleared to return to action. Rodgers, who had surgery on Oct. 19, is eligible to return from IR for the 7-6 Packers for Sunday’s game at Carolina. Rodgers posted “It’s been a long road from that day to this, but I’m happy to say I’ve been medically cleared to return.”

Receiver Kenny Britt, who was waived by the Browns on Friday, has visited with the Patriots and is close to signing a two-year deal, ESPN reported.
