The Failed PABT Bomber: Another Jihadi Maniac

-

Monday morning was a regular commute for me as I walked through the underground corridor connecting the 7 train to the Port Authority Bus Terminal. Then the bomb went off. Everyone panicked and ran for the exits (“Christmas Terror,” Dec. 12).

Everyone except the NYPD, the Port Authority Police Department and the young men and women of the National Guard. With no thought for their own safety, they ushered civilians out of harm’s way, while making their way toward it.

These heroes stand between danger and the rest of us every day. God bless them.

The deranged maniac who tried to blow himself up was unsuccessful.

However, he did injure a few innocent people who were on their way to work. This person is nothing short of an animal who intended to do harm to many people.

Gov. Cuomo has stated that we must go on with our regular routines and not allow this latest attack to prevent us from living normally.

It is so easy for politicians to say this: They have the luxury of a security detail. The rest of us do not. They should keep these comments to themselves.

Terrorists keep succeeding in the most “secure” places in America.

The most recent attack was at the PABT, which our government has been working on fully securing for decades. This was yet another guy defeated solely by his own ineptness.

Ben Franklin said “those who give up essential liberty for temporary safety deserve neither.”

And we have neither liberty nor safety today: Police checking our bags at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade? Children surrounded by paramilitary police with machine guns?

I congratulate first-responders for their quick, calm-headed response to the incident at the PABT.

Please know that those of us in the middle of the country feel the city’s pain every time an attack like this happens.

Thank you to the agencies involved in protecting the people of New York City and this great country.
