Dep. AG backs Mueller
Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein said Wednesday he sees no reason to fire special counsel Robert Mueller (inset), despite loud complaints from Republicans that his Russia investigation is stacked with antiPresident Trump investigators.
“I know what he’s doing,” Rosenstein told the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday.
“If I thought he was doing something inappropriate, I would take action.”
Rosensteinn rejected a Re-Republican demandemand to ap-appoint a secondcond special counsel to investigate Hillary Clinton, nton, saying he’s awaitingng the con-conclusion fromm an inspec-inspector general’s’s investiga-investigation into howow the Justice Departmentt handled the Clintonton e-mail investigation. Republicans came to the hearing armed with text messages between FBI officials Peter Strzok and Lisa Page in 2016 that say, “F Trump!” and call the president a “loathsome human” and an “idiot.” “These text messages prove what we all suspected: High-ranking FBI officials involved in the Clinton investigation were personally invested in the outcome of the election,, and clearly let their strong polpolitical opinions cloud their professional judgment,” said Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.). But Rep. JJerrold Nadler (D-NY) said there’s nothinging wrong wwith FBI agents expressing ppolitical views via text message.m
