Globes ‘Trip’ gone bad

-

AFTER taking aim at the Oscars in 2016, Jada Pinkett Smith vented on Twitter on Wednesday about the upcoming Golden Globes. Smith’s 2017 movie “Girls Trip” and co-star Tiffany Haddish didn’t get nominated, and Smith tweeted: “I’m not upset about [Haddish] or [‘Girls Trip’] not getting a nom... I’m discouraged about the fact that the Hollywood Foreign Press/@GoldenGlobes wouldn’t even WATCH the movie.” But a source with knowledge of the screening situation told Page Six the film did get a fair shake, and that there was an off icial showing for members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (which gives out the Globes) on July 18 while that members were also invited to the movie’s premiere. A Variety reporter tweeted that screeners of the Universal film were sent out to voters. Either way, Smith tweeted, “How could a nom happen & how much more critical acclaim must a movie have to simply get a screening? But yet . . . Tiff has been asked to present at their ceremony. This isn’t about shaming, this is about the need for discussion on an antiquated system,” The Post’s Derrick Bryson Taylor reports. In 2016, Smith boycotted the Oscars over a lack of diversity among nominees in acting categories. “At the Oscars . . . people of color are always welcomed to give out awards . . . even entertain,” she said at the time. “But we are rarely recognized for our artistic accomplishments. Should people of color refrain from participating all together?”
