Cashman focusing on infield

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — Brian Cashman has to fill vacancies at second and third base and he is looking at the trade market, free agency and what he has in house.

“We have kids who are hungry and trying to push their way in now,’’ the Yankees’ general manager said Wednesday at the Winter Meetings. “It just depends on how things shake out as we get into the dialogue.’’

Gleyber Torres is considered the best of the infield prospects, but is coming off a season in which he was limited to 55 games between Double-A Trenton and Triple-A Scranton-Wilkes/Barre due to Tommy John surgery on his left (non-throwing) elbow.

Cashman said last spring training that Torres was the choice of staff members to replace shortstop Didi Gregorius when he suffered a shoulder injury in the WBC but he overruled it.

“Trenton, he conquered the Eastern League for the period of time he was there and then he was starting to conquer the International League and then he got hurt,’’ Cashman said. “The way his trajectory was going I think you would have seen him in the big leagues last year and it may have prevented us from trading for Todd Frazier.’’

Yet Torres, who turned 21 Wednesday, isn’t a lock to start at second or third on Opening Day.

“He is certainly a candidate amongst all but we aren’t anointing anybody at this point,’’ Cashman said.

According to The Post’s Joel Sherman, the Yankees have been talking to the Diamondbacks about infielder Brandon Drury, whose versatility and potential as a hitter they have long liked.

Cashman said Aaron Judge’s offseason left shoulder surgery won’t impact him being ready for spring training but it will cut into his winter workouts.

“The only thing he will be behind [in] is he won’t be hitting as early in the winter as he is used to,’’ Cashman said.

Mike Harkey is expected to return as bullpen coach and Marcus Thames, the assistant hitting coach last season, is expected to be named hitting coach, but Cashman wasn’t ready to announce that Wednesday.
