Collins is Giants’ lone Pro Bowler

- By PAUL SCHWARTZ pschwartz@nypost.com

Landon Collins put together a breakout 2016 season and was voted to his first Pro Bowl, in only his second year in the NFL. The Giants were 11-5 and made the playoffs, success Collins played a big part in creating.

Collins’ play was not nearly as spectacular in 2017, but he was the only Giants player Tuesday selected to the Pro Bowl, named the NFC’s starting strong safety. His team is 2-12, and that sours some of the sweetness of the personal achievement.

“It’s definitely a mixed feeling, because I want all my guys to succeed, as a team and as a whole,” Collins said. “We all want to succeed and by me just doing it, it’s a good feeling, but at the same time a bad feeling, because I want everybody to be happy, not just myself.”

Collins, despite playing several games with a high ankle sprain and, last Sunday, staying on the field for only 18 defensive snaps before aggravating the ankle, leads the Giants with 98 tackles, 32 more than anyone else on the team. Collins has started all 47 games (including one playoff game) in his three years and has led the Giants in tackles all three years.

He was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week in the Nov. 19 victory over the Chiefs after posting a career-high 14 tackles (10 solo) and one interception.

Defensive tackle Damon “Snacks” Harrison, finished as a fourth alternate. The Pro Bowl is Jan. 28 in Orlando, Fla.

➤ Romeo Okwara was activated Tuesday from the injured reserve/designated for return list. Okwara, who was placed on IR with a knee injury, has not played since the fifth game of the season. The second-year defensive end is eligible to play in the final two games.

To make room on the roster, linebacker Jeremy Cash was waived.

The Giants also signed receiver Amba Etta-Tawo to their practice squad.
