Troubled boyfriend shot her point blank: ma
Allegedly broke and drug-addled, Keith Jackson was hardly a model father-to-be — telling his three-months-pregnant girlfriend, “I hope you spit out a boy.”
Then, early Thursday, Jackson pumped a single bullet into girlfriend Bridget Shenk’s chest, killing her and their unborn child in the hallway outside her Staten Island apartment, police said.
Arrested at the scene, Jackson, 43, has been charged with murder and gun possession, police said.
The two had been fighting recently over Jackson’s use of opiates and angel dust, the victim’s mother, Dorothy, told The Post Thursday, hours after the killing.
“At first, he didn’t want any children,” Dorothy said.
“And when she found out she was pregnant, he said, ‘I hope you spit out a boy ’ cause my track record sucks,’ because he has three girls,” the mother said.
Shenk, 35, of Port Richmond, worked with her brother as a deli clerk in Manalapan, NJ, the mom said.
“We would’ve known the sex of the baby in nine days,” the mother said tearfully of a recent prenatal exam to which Dorothy accompanied her daughter.
“But the nine days are gonna be gone and she’s gonna already be in the ground.”
Now the only way Jackson will learn if he was to have been the father of a son is if he gets access to the autopsy report.
“I do wanna know” the sex of the lost grandchild, Dorothy said.
“But now the medical examiner can tell me that,” she said, weeping in the living room of her home in Arden Heights.
Jackson, who lived off and on with Shenk, “had an issue with drugs. He had an issue with angel dust and maybe that’s what triggered the argument last night,” Dorothy said.
“He had surgery on his knee; he had been put on opiates which, as they say, that’s the killer drug on Staten Island right now.
“But it didn’t kill him,” she added. “It killed my baby, because my daughter’s not here no more.”
Shot in the chest and dying, Shenk had tried to crawl back inside the apartment in a futile bid for safety, the mom said.
“And she died right in the doorway,” Dorothy said.
“This is what [Bridget] wanted her whole life,” Dorothy added sadly of her child’s wish to be a mother. “And he couldn’t even let her have that.”
