Seton Hall suspends senior Sanogo

- By ZACH BRAZILLER

If Kevin Willard isn’t in the holiday spirit, it would be hard to blame him.

Two days after freshman guard Jordan Walker left the program only to return the next day after apologizing to the team for the distraction he created, the Seton Hall coach announced senior forward Ismael Sanogo has been suspended indefinitely for a violation of team and school rules. Sanogo won’t play in Saturday’s non-conference finale against Manhattan at Prudential Center, and could miss some Big East games, too, a team source said.

There is no timetable on the suspension. It all depends on how the hardnosed senior, known for his defensive ability, responds to the disciplinary measure.

“It’s all on him,” the source said.

The exact reason for the suspension is unknown, though the source said it was not academics-related, but the result of a pattern of “really bad judgements.” Sanogo, a 6-foot-8 forward from Newark, was also suspended for a preseason game in November.

Walker, a freshman from Long Island, left the team Tuesday with the intention of transferring. He was upset he didn’t play in the loss to Rutgers on Saturday, sources said. The next day, however, Walker was accepted back into the program. He didn’t play in Wednesday’s win over Wagner.

The No. 23 Pirates (10-2) open their Big East schedule against No. 25 Creighton on Thursday before hosting St. John’s on New Year’s Eve.
