Mountaineers cruise past Fordham
Jevon Carter and Sagaba Konate had double-doubles, and the No. 10 Mountaineers spoiled Fordham coach Jeff Neubauer’s return to West Virginia, beating the Rams, 86-69, on Saturday in Morgantown, W. Va.
The Mountaineers (11-1) started out a little sluggish but managed a 16-point lead with four minutes left in the first half.
Will Tavares led Fordham (5-7) with 18 points and seven rebounds, and Joseph Chartouny added 16 points.
“We did do some good things offensively,” Neubauer said, who spent three seasons as an assistant at West Virginia under John Beilein between 2002-05. “We just didn’t do 40 minutes of good things.”
North Carolina 86, Ohio St. 72
In New Orleans, Joel Berry II and Theo Pinson each scored 19 points, and No. 5 North Carolina (11-2) bounced back from a loss to Wofford with a convincing victory over Ohio State (10-4). Pinson scored six points on flawless free throw shooting inside the final 1:06 to ice the game.
UCLA 83, Kentucky 75
In New Orleans, Aaron Holiday capped a 20-point performance with a pivotal driving scoop and two free throws in the final 33 seconds for UCLA (9-3).
Hamidou Diallo scored 18 points and Wenyen Gabriel added a season-high 16 points for No. 7 Kentucky (9-2), which lost for the first time in eight games.
Saint Peter’s 71, St. Francis 68, OT
In Jersey City, Samuel Idowu scored a career-high 20 points including a layup in overtime that proved to be the winner in a victory for Saint Peter’s (6-5) over St. Francis Brooklyn (3-9).
Dayton 79, Wagner 67
In Dayton, Ohio, Josh Cunningham scored 19 points, Darrell Davis added 17 and Dayton (6-6) held on to defeat Wagner (7-4).
