Moguls, celebs flee St. Barts

-

ASPEN, Colo., and Miami are hosting the billionaires and the jet-set crowd this holiday season as the Caribbean island of St. Barts continues to recover from the wrath of Hurricane Irma.

St. Barts is traditionally the holiday haunt of a host of billionaires, including Roman Abramovich, who hosts a starry, annual New Year’s Eve party at his estate, which suffered severe storm damage. Other billionaire Barts regulars include Steve Tisch, Len Blavatnik, Ronald Perelman, David Geffen, Barry Diller and Diane von Furstenberg, Tom Barrack, Peter Brant, and François-Henri Pinault, many of whom would sail in on yachts too large to be housed in the island’s biggest marina at Gustavia. Celeb stalwarts on St. Barts’ shores during the holidays include P. Diddy, Paul McCartney, Pharrell Williams, Marc Jacobs, Chris Rock and Leonardo DiCaprio, who was famously photographed on a beach surrounded by a harem of bikini-clad models in 2015, as he stayed at the $28,000-a-night St. Jean beachfront Villa Rockstar with his pals.

However, because of Irma, Leo and his considerable crew are headed to Aspen — after a stop in Tulum, Mexico — we’re told. Also in Aspen are regulars Goldie Hawn, Nicolas Berggruen and developer Ugo Colombo. Among those who will likely not be missed at St. Barts this year are alleged harassers Harvey Weinstein, Russell Simmons and Brett Ratner, who are all lying low following multiple accusations.

Meanwhile, St. Barts officials insist the island has bounced back, and while some of the fancier hotels such as Eden Rock are still rebuilding, many of the villas and restaurants are back in business for the season. Jimmy Buffett is playing a free concert in Gustavia on Wednesday to encourage people to return to the island.

Those in Miami include Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez, and Demi Lovato, who’s performing poolside at the Fontainebleau on NYE, while Travis Scott is onstage at LIV. Also in Miami: Mark Cuban, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Kylie Jenner, with a host of prominent New Yorkers.
