GIANTSBLITZ

- by Paul Schwartz

HERO

The ageless Larry Fitzgerald had an easy time picking apart a depleted Giants secondary, catching nine passes for 119 yards and one touchdown. Oh, and he also completed the first pass of his 14-year NFL career, rolling out and throwing a pinpoint bullet to Jaron Brown for 21 yards. What can’t he do?

UNSUNG HERO

CB Ross Cockrell came away with two interceptions of Drew Stanton and competed at a fairly high level most of the game. He was signed earlier this season as insurance and, after the injury to Janoris Jenkins, the reduced role for Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and the disappearance of Eli Apple, Cockrell is not only a starter, he never comes off the field.

ZERO

There is nothing Eli Manning can do to rally the troops around him, because so many of his teammates on offense are fringe or marginal NFL players. The best Manning can do is try to avoid wrecking the game with big mistakes. He fired two interceptions and fumbled the ball twice, losing one for a three-turnover day.

KEY STAT 2 for 14

It’s

hard to believe the Giants converted on just two third-down conversions. They were 1-for-4 on fourth-down conversions. It was not as if they were in difficult situations, as they were 1-for-12 trying to convert on third or fourth down when needing three or fewer yards.
