Garner kid’s sad warning

Knew of heart woe before coma

Erica Garner — daughter of police chokehold victim Eric Garner — who was put in a medically induced coma Sunday after going into cardiac arrest, had been diagnosed with heart problems during a recent pregnancy, a family lawyer said Monday.

Garner (right), who became an activist against police brutality after her father’s 2014 death, suffered an asthma attack Saturday that triggered the cardiac event and was rushed to Woodhull Hospital in Queens, where she is in critical condition, said the lawyer, who asked not to be identified.

Garner, 27, was alerted to heart problems before giving birth to her second child four months ago, the lawyer said.

Shaken friends and family surrounded her Monday and held out hope for a turnaround.

Garner’s distraught fos- ter mother, Tanya Goode, said her daughter had “stabilized,” and asked “for prayers and patience, because God has his own time and is turning it around.”

Garner’s sister, Emerald Snipes, wrote on Facebook, “I pray she makes it. She has two little ones to live for.”

Eric Garner became a symbol of excessive police force when he died after being placed in a chokehold by NYPD Officer Daniel Pantaleo on Staten Island on July 17, 2014. Police said the 350pound Garner resisted ar- rest after illegally selling loose cigarettes.

A video of the confrontation shows a struggling Garner repeatedly telling officers that he was unable to breathe. He would later go into cardiac arrest and die.

Erica Garner raged against police force in the wake of his death and was unafraid to rip officials across the political spectrum for failing to adequately address police brutality — including Mayor de Blasio.

Her national stature grew to the point that she introduced then-presidential candidate Bernie Sanders at a South Carolina campaign rally.

The Rev. Al Sharpton said at a Christmas event, “I want everyone to pray for Erica Snipes Garner, the daughter of Eric Garner, who had a heart attack and is in the hospital.”
